ICE announces discovery of over 10,000 fraud cases in Optional Practical Training program for foreign students
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Tuesday that it has identified over 10,000 foreign students claiming employment with suspect employers in the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program. ICE Director Todd Lyons disclosed that investigators found empty buildings, fake worksites listed at residential addresses, and employers with tax liens operating fraudulently under the program. The OPT program, which issued over 400,000 work permits in 2024, allows foreign students to work in the U.S. while attending or after graduating from college.
