Democrat Chedrick Greene, a firefighter and Marine veteran, defeated Republican Jason Tunney in a special election for Michigan's 35th state Senate District on Tuesday, securing Democrats' control of the state Senate. Greene won with approximately 59% of the vote to Tunney's under 40%, a margin of about 19 percentage points. The seat had been vacant since January 2025 and will be up for election again in November.
