Iran threatens retaliation if US resumes attacks and reasserts control over Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday that Iran would respond with "long and painful strikes" on US positions if Washington renews attacks. Iran also reasserted its claim to control the Strait of Hormuz, which it has closed in response to what it characterizes as a US naval blockade. The closure has blocked roughly 20 percent of global oil and gas supplies since the ceasefire began April 8.
