Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth testifies before Congress on Iran war and $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared before the House Armed Services Committee and Senate Armed Services Committee alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine to discuss the Trump administration's 2027 military budget proposal of $1.5 trillion. During the nearly six-hour House hearing, the Pentagon publicly disclosed for the first time that the US-Israel war with Iran, which began February 28, has cost $25 billion so far. Fighting has been largely paused since April 8 under a ceasefire, with the US maintaining a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
