DOJ drops criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced Friday that her office is closing its criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell regarding cost overruns in the renovation of the Fed's Washington headquarters. The investigation had been a obstacle to Senate confirmation of Kevin Warsh, Trump's pick to replace Powell, with Senator Thom Tillis threatening to block Warsh's confirmation vote until the probe ended. Pirro referred the matter to the Fed's Inspector General and left open the possibility of relaunching the criminal investigation if warranted.
