Trump administration proposes tariffs of 10-12.5% on 60 trading partners citing forced labor failures
The U.S. Trade Representative released a report proposing additional tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on 60 trading partners, including China, the EU, Canada, the UK, and Japan, citing their failure to prohibit imports of goods made with forced labor. The investigation was conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and follows the Supreme Court's February ruling that struck down Trump's previous sweeping tariffs imposed under IEEPA. The proposed tariffs are subject to public comment and hearings scheduled for July 7 before taking effect.
