Google engineer charged with insider trading on Polymarket using confidential search data

Michele Spagnuolo, a 36-year-old Google software engineer and Italian citizen residing in Switzerland, was charged with commodities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering after allegedly using confidential Google "Year in Search" data to place profitable bets on Polymarket. Prosecutors say he used an internal company tool to access nonpublic data on trending searches and wagered approximately $2.75 million through the account "AlphaRaccoon," netting over $1.2 million in profits.
